What Are IC Tubes Used For
IC tubes are rigid, anti-static plastic channels used to ship and store semiconductor
packages such as DIP, SOIC, SOJ, QFN, SOP, TSOP, and TSSOP — as well as connectors, relays, and other leaded or small-outline components. Components slide into the tube and are held in a single row, which keeps pin orientation consistent for automated pick-and-place feeding.
IC tube vs. tape and reel vs. JEDEC tray
tubes are typically used for components too tall or too rigid for tape and reel, or for lower-volume runs where tray tooling isn't cost-effective. Tubes also stack and store more compactly than trays for long-body packages like SOIC and TSOP.
Tube packaging is similar to Tape and Reel packaging in that it is designed to safely store and transport larger parts that may not be suitable for tape and reel packaging. In this method, sets of components are secured in specialized packaging, ensuring both safety and efficiency during transport and handling.
